The Modern Studies Network
The Modern Studies Network is a network for Higher Modern Studies teachers and pupil/students.
Membership is only open to subscribers of Modernityscotland. Membership is by invitation only.
By having a relatively closed membership it is hoped that we can have a discussion forum with high standards of etiquette and discussions which are limited to Modern Studies and other educational issues.
Members can ask questions which other members can comment on.
Teachers can ask other teachers if they have a tape recording, materials for S1 or anything else which someone out there in cyberspace might be able to help with.
It is entirely up to you, the member, if you wish to contribute to a discussion or start your own new one.
Joining up is easy and contributing is very easy too.
The Modern Studies Network can become whatever you want it to be.
Posts will be moderated by me, but only in the lightest of ways.
I’ll only get involved if I have something worthwhile to say or, in a worst case scenario, if any posts are inappropriate i.e. containing bad language or a hostile tone.
If, in the unlikely event someone does post something unsavoury, the member will be barred from using the Network.
If you haven’t already received an invite, all you need to do is to send an email to us.
If you are a pupil/student, simply complete the email enquiry form stating the school/college you attend (so that we know that your school/college subscribes to Modernityscotland).
It is highly recommended that pupils/students follow the good practice of discussions on all internet based chat sites.
- Never give out your real name or the school/college you attend online
- Only meet someone from a chatroom in a public place with one of your parents or another adult.
- Never give out your address or telephone number
- Never agree to meet anyone from a chatroom on your own
- Tell an adult if someone makes inappropriate suggestions to you or makes you feel uncomfortable online
I hope is that we, pupils and teachers can all communicate to improve our performance and enjoy teaching and learning about Modern Studies as much as possible.
Any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Best wishes,
John McTaggart, Director, Modernityscotland
